Rakuten Viki is an American video streaming website with premium licensed content which is put on one of its channels, and the content can be subtitled by community volunteers. Viki was the first platform for real-time subtitling and sharing of videos of all content types. Community members can subtitle their favorite videos in their preferred languages, under a Creative Commons license using the subtitling software developed for the company, enabling volunteers to cooperate globally in up to 160 languages at once. Of the approximately 200 language subtitles available on the site, roughly 50 of these are vulnerable or endangered languages.

The company has a list of partners for providing original content, including BBC Worldwide. The company has also signed distribution deals for its original content with Hulu, Netflix, Yahoo!, MSN, NBC, and A&E, as well as TVB in Hong Kong, SBS in South Korea, Fuji TV in Japan and Amedia in Russia. Viki has also expanded into the music video market after signing the license deals with major record labels such as Warner Music, SEED Music Group of Taiwan and Korea’s LOEN.

Apart from the website access, Viki is also available across several platforms via its app and can be streamed on Roku, Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV and mobile devices running on both iOS and Android systems.

Just like most of the streaming services, Viki is geo-restricted and its full version is available in the US. If you are interested in shows in many different subtitles and need to travel or live outside America, you have to prevent your IP from being detected as not coming from the US and direct part of your Internet traffic which is responsible for showing your location through our Smart DNS server which makes it possible for you to access not only Viki but also many other geo-restricted services. Configuration is quite easy and is available for many systems and devices.

Stream Viki shows with Getflix Smart VPN

Smart VPN is another solution that can be used to stream geo-located content from such services as Viki. The difference lies in the level of security and anonymity as Smart VPN takes your traffic via a dedicated, US-based server and changes your IP so that your connection to Viki appears as if coming directly from the US.

Smart VPN is a great tool for travellers who need to use the Internet to access sensitive websites such as their banking account or private email over an unprotected Wi-Fi spot in public areas such as hotels, shopping malls or airports. No hacker will be able to track down your online activities or compromise your data.
