The Smithsonian Channel is an American pay television channel owned by ViacomCBS through its domestic media networks division. It offers video content inspired by the Smithsonian Institution's museums, research facilities and magazines. Smithsonian Institution is a trust instrumentality of the United States (an organization established by the U.S. government as a public trust) composed of facilities such as historical and architectural landmarks including 19 museums and galleries, 21 libraries, 9 research centers and a zoo.

The channel features original non-fiction programming that covers a wide range of subjects including science, nature, culture, modern and ancient history, air and spacecraft, royalty, crime and mystery, and various documentaries. It is also available as a video on demand service, depending on the service provider, and in various Internet streaming and download formats. The programming consists of both long-running series and in-depth one-off specials.

Depending on your location, Smithsonian Channel is available in the US, Canada, Latin America, UK, and the Republic of Ireland. However, the fullest programming is only available in the United States and if you want to get access to the US version of the service, you need to make sure that your IP is seen as coming from within the US. If you are traveling or living anywhere else, your stream will be blocked by geo-restrictions.

How to watch Smithsonian Channel outside the US

Smart DNS redirects part of your connection via a dedicated, US-based server making the streamer believe that your traffic comes from the US. In order to use this solution and get access to Smithsonian Channel (as well as many other geo-blocked services supported by Getflix), you need to sign up with Getflix and register your IP in our data base first. You have 14 days of free trial to test our service.

Next, you need to configure your device (desktop computer, laptop, mobile phone, portable Internet-capable device, media player, game console, Smart TV, etc.) to work with our Smart DNS. The solution is available for multiple platforms and you can find detailed instructions on how to set them up here. The setup process is quite easy and does not require any special skills and additional software or hardware.

You can also make all your home network-connected devices access geo-located services by configuring your home router. It is slightly more complex thank setting up your device but if you run into any problems, you can always contact us for help or refer to our Knowledge Base to look for appropriate articles with detailed instructions.

Stream Smithsonian Channel content with Getflix Smart VPN

There is an alternative (or additional) solution to accessing geo-restricted services available to our regular subscribers. Smart VPN is a state-of-the-art security solution that, apart from the possibility to access geo-blocked streamers, gives you an additional layer of online security. VPN (or Virtual Private Network) is a system of virtual tunnels that take your Internet traffic via a special encrypted connection directly to the server located in the destination country.

By changing your IP and encrypting your entire traffic, your online activities are anonymous and strongly protected from any outside interventions and attempts to compromise the connection. With Smart VPN, you can both unblock geo-fenced services and safely access sensitive websites (e.g. your banking app or a business email account) even using open and unprotected Wi-Fi networks so popular in public area like airports, hotels, cafes, shops, etc.

Join Getflix and get access to Smithsonian Channel wherever you are while staying safe and anonymous online.
